Speller Metcalfe shortlisted for national construction awards

This week Speller Metcalfe has been announced as a finalist for three Construction News awards.

The contractor, that works across the Midlands and South West regions, has been nominated for two project awards including Project of the Year (under £20m) for the historic restoration and expansion of Derby Silk Mill, largely considered the world’s first modern factory, into the newly-opened Museum of Making. The scheme is also currently finalist for four East Midlands Constructing Excellence awards including Building Project of the Year and Conservation & Regeneration.

The second project nomination is for the development of Cyber Quarter: Midlands Centre for Cyber Security at Skylon Park in Herefordshire, which has been shortlisted for Community Engagement Project of the Year, with the category recognising ‘outstanding community engagement and outreach programmes during its delivery’. The scheme has also been nominated for a number of West Midlands Constructing Excellence awards including Building Project of the Year and Digital Construction.

The national Construction News awards are some of the construction industry’s most prestigious, with Speller Metcalfe also nominated for ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Industry’ – a new addition for 2021. This award recognises “an organisation who has achieved great things and demonstrated a sustained commitment to making the industry a better, safer, more efficient, more welcoming, more professional or happier place, as well as achieving things never thought possible.”

James Speller, pre-construction director at Speller Metcalfe, said: “The past year more than any other has been extremely challenging, with an extraordinary level of work having gone into all of our projects to support their ongoing delivery during the pandemic, so to be nominated for awards that recognise the efforts of our project teams and staff is fantastic.

“This year we are celebrating our 25th year in industry and to have an ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Industry’ nomination is the icing on the cake. Our committed legacy is to set an example to the industry that no matter your size, we can all achieve excellence by treating everyone fairly, working collaboratively and with integrity, creating opportunities that allow people and projects to excel, consistently delivering best practice and advocating innovation to better the industry.”

Speller Metcalfe has a successful record with the Construction News awards, having been given a number of finalists nominations and award wins in the last 6 years, including taking home the prestigious Contractor of the Year award in 2015.
