Midlands Centre for Cyber Security

Construction of a £9m centre to fight cyber crime

Project

Midlands Centre for Cyber Security

Speller Metcalfe was contracted to deliver state-of-the-art Cyber Quarter: Midlands Centre for Cyber Security in Hereford, a flagship scheme for the University of Wolverhampton.

Designed by Associated Architects, the project – a joint venture between the University of Wolverhampton and Herefordshire Council – has been built at Skylon Park in the Hereford Enterprise Zone.

The centre provides a three-storey research space and teaching building for the University of Wolverhampton’s Cyber Security Research Institute, as well as tenanted office space for up to 20 local cyber security businesses.

A full height glass atrium provides a dual break-out space and function hall, alongside the main three storey building that houses business suites, innovation rooms, IT workshops and a ‘Cyber Range’ – a cutting edge facility that will defend against the global rise of hacking.

The shared facilities will allow private sector businesses to benefit from the University’s networks and expertise as well as make use of the Centre’s specialist training rooms and laboratory spaces.

The project achieved BREEAM Very Good and a ‘Silver’ Considerate Constructors Scheme Award.
