Speller Metcalfe was appointed to carry out the refurbishment of an existing building to provide SEN facilities at Pelsall SEN School.
The new building is situated within the grounds of the Education Development Centre, an established school including Rushall Primary School. The site is located within a built-up residential and educational centre including playing fields to the east of the site.
A derelict area of the existing school that was historically used for SEN provision was brought back up to modern standards under the contract.
Works began in May 2023, with the site liaising with the school to ensure the construction works did not impact the live school environment. The refurbishment project was completed in time for the new intake of students in September 2023.
Following this project, the team returned to carry out some additional works during the October half-term.
Due to the successful completion of the initial works, the client directly awarded the second phase to Speller Metcalfe.
The scheme was procured by Walsall City Council through the Constructing West Midlands Framework.
