Triple celebrations for Speller Metcalfe
Midlands-based construction company Speller Metcalfe is celebrating having won awards in all three of their shortlisted categories at the West Midlands Constructing Excellence awards ceremony on Friday 4th December.
The awards were held virtually for the first time this year due to COVID-19, with a digital event streamed via YouTube and hosted by CE Midlands Chair, Andrew Carpenter.
Speller Metcalfe’s wins included:
- Integration and Collaborative Working Award – Sister Dora Skills and Simulation Suite, University of Wolverhampton. Refurbishment and extension to provide enhanced facilities for the University’s Institute of Health including simulation labs, replica hospital wards and clinical skills areas.
- Sustainability Award – Tanworth Court Care Home. New build, 60-bed care home in Shirley, Solihull. Sustainable credentials include EPC ‘A’ rating and use of ground-source heat pumps and photovoltaic panels.
- Value Award – Beatrice Shilling Building, Coventry University. Four-storey teaching building for the faculty of Engineering, Environment and Computing, providing a gaming and virtual reality studio, a specialist area for 3D printing and rapid prototyping, a laser facility and physics and electronics laboratories, all designed around a full height central atrium configured to promote student and staff collaboration.
Speller Metcalfe pre-construction director, James Speller, said: “Speller Metcalfe has supported the CE Midlands Awards for many years and we are delighted that the 2020 awards have proven to be our most successful to date, for the first time taking home three awards!”
“I am very proud of all of our project teams, from both Speller Metcalfe staff and our client and partner organisations, for the fantastic achievements these awards represent.
“We are particularly proud of our continued success in Integration and Collaborative Working, having won both regional and national awards in this category in 2018. None of these projects would be award-winning without a real culture of collaboration and the award is testament to the approach Speller Metcalfe takes in everything we do.
“In a year where we have all had to make many adjustments to our ways of working, it is fantastic that CE Midlands has adapted to provide a virtual ceremony to allow the industry to come together and continue celebrating the best that construction has to offer across the Midlands.”
