SPELLER METCALFE DELIVERS THE GREENEST BUILDING IN THE WORLD
The project team working together achieved the ‘BREEAM Outstanding’ score.
BREEAM is an assessment method recognised world-wide for rating the sustainable value of non-domestic buildings, and the local construction company scored the highest mark ever recorded – 100.5% for a new depot built on behalf of their client Western Power Distribution.
Explaining how such a score has been feasible, Adrian Speller, Environmental Manager at Speller Metcalfe said: “To reach over 100% seems somewhat impossible, but we have worked extremely hard to deliver over and above what was required in each category, which was actually done at very little additional cost to the project.
“We hope this scheme – our tenth for Western Power Distribution – will be an example to businesses both large and small in what they can do to reduce carbon emissions and building running costs while having a positive impact on the environment and subsequently the local community.”
To reach the highest score in the world to date is a fantastic achievement for a local business who is a prime example of how the construction industry is ploughing forward in the West Midlands.
Over the last year alone, Speller Metcalfe has expanded Company numbers by over 30%, opened a new office in the Black Country and set up the Worcestershire Construction Apprentice Academy, a charity that is helping young people into training and apprenticeships.
