MINI BUILDERS MAKE A BIG IMPRESSION AT NEWBURY RACECOURSE

They were welcomed by Speller Metcalfe and developers David Wilson Homes to inspect progress on the new build. The children aged three and four and their carers enjoyed an entertaining hour on site with Racecourse mascot Harry The Horse and Speller Metcalfe's safety mascot Buzz Sitegear.  They learned a little about site safety and all enjoyed some drawing and colouring with the on-site team.

The Rocking Horse Nursery was established at Newbury Racecourse more than 20 years ago and as part of the Racecourse's agreement with David Wilson Homes that includes a significant residential development, a new state-of-the-art nursery is being built.

The new facility will feature six rooms dedicated to the different stages of the children's development.  In addition the children will benefit from a library, soft play and sensory room and extensive secure outdoor play areas.

As well as the nursery, Speller Metcalfe is also building a three-storey accommodation block for jockeys that will be available to the general public outside of race days.

Opening in the Summer of 2015, the new Rocking Horse Nursery will provide exceptional care for up to 100 children.

Norman Davies, Senior Health & Safety Manager at Speller Metcalfe and a key hand in organising the event said: “This has been a really successful day and it has been a nice change of pace to have some of our younger builders on site!

“Not only have they had fun meeting our mascots, it’s been a great opportunity to introduce them to their new nursery which some of them will be using from next year.”
