SPELLER METCALFE REACHES 20 YEARS

Spellstock saw over 400 people enjoy a day of four live bands, local ales, games and fantastic food by Herefordshire crew, The Beefy Boys, who served up their world award-winning burgers for the event.

“Spellstock is recognition not just of our anniversary year, but of all the hard work of our staff – many of whom have been with us since the near beginning – and have come on the journey of Speller Metcalfe,” said Andy Metcalfe, Joint Group Managing Director.

Starting in a humble garage in 1995, Speller Metcalfe has grown in size to a £115 million turnover company with over 200 staff across our regional sites and offices.

"Andy and myself met as quantity surveyors for another contractor before deciding we wanted to go it on our own," said Steve Speller, Joint Group Managing Director. "I handed in my notice and set up Speller Construction in the garage with a hand painted sign before Andy joined six months later and we became Speller Metcalfe."

“With just five employees, we won our first project for Leominster Construction in 1995 with a project value of £27,000 before quickly growing to a £1 million turnover in 1996.”

In 2000 Steve and Andy moved into the Company's HQ in Malvern on Enigma Business Park before Andy branched out to another base in Gloucester and procured the Company’s first framework under Gloucestershire County Council in 2007.

"Setting up the Gloucester arm was a strategic move to cover a larger region and we've been lucky (and hardworking!) in our success in the area, now growing into Oxfordshire, Bristol and North Somerset regions," said Andy.

"This success has continued into 2015 and we now have four offices across Wolverhampton, Malvern, Gloucester and London and over 200 staff helping us to continually break new ground and deliver some of our best award-winning projects. Spellstock is just a great opportunity to recognise all these staff efforts and celebrate the Company’s successes and growth 20 years on.”
