Speller Metcalfe sponsors hospice’s 40th Malvern Hills Walk

WALKERS are invited to stride out across the Malvern Hills for a hospice’s 40th annual fundraising challenge.

The St Richard’s Hospice Malvern Hills Walk takes place on Saturday, May 11 – with two, five and 11-mile routes available.

The fundraising walk has been a fixture in the hospice’s calendar since it was founded in 1984, raising funds to help the charity continue its care.

Alison Parkes, Fundraiser at St Richard’s, said: “We are very much looking forward to this year’s Malvern Hills Walk, as it’s not only a fantastic way to raise funds for our care but it also marks a milestone in our hospice history.

“Walkers are treated to stunning views across the surrounding countryside and a real sense of achievement, whichever route they choose. There’s always a great atmosphere on the day, and we’ll be cheering everyone on as they go.

“This event is very much part of who we are at St Richard’s, and we hope to see as many people join us on the day as possible!”

The Malvern Hills Walk is sponsored by Speller Metcalfe.

Bill Cave, Operations Director at Speller Metcalfe, said: “We are extremely proud to have partnered with St Richard’s on many of their building projects over the years, and to have the opportunity to sponsor their well-established Malvern Hills Walk once again.

“Now in its milestone 40th year, the walk is just another one of the ways that they go the extra mile to fundraise for their patients and wider families who rely on them so much at such a critical life juncture.”

Both the two and five-mile walks are circular, starting from 10am at Black Hills Car Park. Admin fee is £10 for adults and £5 for under 16s, who must be accompanied by an adult.

The 11-mile walk will see participants trek the length of the hills from Chase End. Everyone walking the 11-mile route will be transported to the start by coach, leaving from North Quarry Car Park at 8am.

Registration for the 11-mile walk starts at 7.20am. Admin fee is £15 for adults and £10 for under 16s, who must be accompanied by an adult.

The hospice asks everyone taking part to raise as much as they can in sponsorship towards the care and support it offers to patients, families, and bereaved people across Worcestershire.

Anyone who raises more than £75 by Monday, May 6 will receive a pair of luxury bamboo walking socks at the finish line.

St Richard’s Hospice is an independent charity caring for adults with a serious progressive illness, improving their quality of life from diagnosis, during treatment to their last days and supporting those important to them.

Each year the hospice team supports more than 3,100 patients, family members and bereaved people in Worcestershire.

It costs £10.28m to run the hospice (22/23 audited accounts), which includes patient care and all the necessary support services.

St Richard’s relies on voluntary support, including from donations, gifts in wills, retail and events for the majority of its income with the remainder funded by the NHS.
