Dudley College of Technology ASC

Speller Metcalfe have been contracted by Dudley College of Technology to construct the next in a series of Integrated Project Insurance (IPI) projects, working as part of an Alliance team consisting of Fulcro, Derry Building Services, Cundall, Cullinan Studio, and the IPInitiatives team.

The project involves the repurposing of an existing but unused building on the college site to create a high quality, robust and sustainable retrofit facility.

Once complete, the retrofit and minor extension of Block E will provide bespoke teaching spaces for Dudley College’s Animal Science Department as part of the College’s ongoing campus regeneration scheme.

The ASC will house the Animal Care faculty which offers hand-on training for students allowing them to develop skills in caring for the wellbeing of pets, working animals, livestock and wildlife.

Specialist spaces in the refurbished building will be integrated with flexible teaching and learning spaces to support attainment of qualifications in animal care.

The works are part of a wider decarbonisation scheme for the whole college, with air source heat pumps as the heating source that will be installed with the wider roll-out of heating the whole of the college. The build is also to be based on Passivhaus principles with enhanced insulation and air tightness.
