SPELLER METCALFE EXCITED TO BEGIN NEW SCHOOL PROJECT

Contracted as part of the Gloucestershire County Council Framework, local contractors Speller Metcalfe will be on site to begin work at the end of October with a projected finish of Spring 2013.

Andy Metcalfe, Joint Managing Director at Speller Metcalfe, said: “This is a fantastic project that should improve not only the building and the environment, but more importantly create functional, appropriate learning areas for all pupils of varying educational needs.”

Improvements include two brand new classroom buildings for all Key Stages, as well as remodelling of the existing building to provide a more coherent layout and make areas more sympathetic  to the learning environment.

A life skills apartment to promote independent learning for older pupils will also be incorporated into the new layout, as well as external landscaping such as enclosed habitat areas to encourage biodiversity and learning opportunities for pupils.

Andy continued: “The project is being carried out in multiple phases to ensure pupils have the opportunity to become familiar with the new environment and understand the changes taking place.”

As well as phasing the project, Speller Metcalfe sent building expert Ivor Goodsite to an assembly to take questions from pupils regarding the buildings works taking place and encourage safety around the site.

Headteacher Clare Steel, said: “The assembly was a great way to engage with the pupils about the new build and reinforce the need for everyone to keep themselves safe. We are all really looking forward to the start of the build later this month.”
