Speller Metcalfe was contracted by Stratford-upon-Avon District Council to undertake a scheme of refurbishment works to its leisure centre which was in need of upgraded, modern facilities to meet the needs of its users.
To minimise disruption to the centre’s users, the works were split across three phrases:
Phase 1 began with floor refurbishments and a rear extension, including a new entrance and external works, new café area and extension, new village and group changing facilities and plant refurbishments and upgrades. On the first floor, the spectator and seating area was also upgraded alongside a new meeting room, spin and dance studio and refurbished crèche.
Phase 2 involved the refurbishment of the swimming pool alongside a new sauna and steam room. The existing pool tanks were re-lined and the pool surround re-tiled, with general renewal of finishes to certain areas.
The final phase of works involved the construction of a new front entrance to the centre, climbing wall, new reception area and communal space, new group exercise studio and the refurbishment of toilets, dry changing area and sports hall.
