Tamworth Future High Streets Project

Tamworth Borough Council appointed Speller Metcalfe as delivery partner to help deliver the transformation of Tamworth town centre.

Funded through the Government’s £21.65 million Future High Streets Fund, the completed regeneration programme has revitalised the town centre, creating a vibrant destination that supports businesses, residents and visitors while celebrating Tamworth’s rich heritage.

Working in partnership with the Council, Speller Metcalfe successfully delivered:

• A new enterprise centre within the restored 19th-century former Co-operative building on Colehill.
• The transformation of Middle Entry, including the removal of the covered walkway roof, demolition of vacant units and the creation of a flexible, multi-use building providing space for independent businesses.
• The restoration and refurbishment of the Grade II listed late 18th-century Peel Café, bringing the historic building back into use while preserving and enhancing its original Georgian features.
• The restoration and refurbishment of historic vacant properties on Market Street, alongside the construction of a wider footbridge providing improved access to the castle grounds.
• Public realm improvements that connect the individual projects, creating a more attractive, accessible and cohesive town centre.

The scheme was procured through the Constructing West Midlands Framework and has delivered lasting economic, social and environmental benefits, supporting Tamworth’s long-term vision for a thriving town centre.
