Almonry Close redevelopment moves a step closer

The redevelopment of Almonry Close in Pershore moved a step closer today as Evesham based Housing Association, Rooftop Housing Group and building contractor, Speller Metcalfe signed the contract to begin work.

The current 1970’s Almonry Close building will be demolished to make way for 54 beautiful new retirement living homes for local people over 55.

The mix of 1- and 2-bedroom homes to be built by Rooftop Housing Group construction partner Speller Metcalfe will be easy to heat, cheap to run, and will feature cutting edge sustainability features, including a green roof, solar PV panels, and electric car charging points.

Rooftop Development Director David Hannon said: “The old Almonry close was not fit for purpose, it didn’t meet modern standards for warmth, space, and “livability”. These 54 homes will help people live the retirement that they want. Local people will be able to have a safe, secure, and warm home for years to come.

“We are delighted to be able to offer 32 of these homes at “Social Rent”. This means that they will be even more affordable. 22 of these homes will be available for Shared Ownership, where part is bought, and part rented.”

Speller Metcalfe’s divisional director, Mark Eaton, said: “Building appropriate homes for local residents– whether new families, young professionals or those entering retirement – is such an important part of enabling families and communities to stay together.

“We are delighted that these homes will not only support a key demographic of Pershore’s community, but also provide comfortable and affordable housing at a time when bills are on the rise.”

The project is set to go to site later this year.
