Speller Metcalfe delivered the £2.65 million refurbishment of the new Haematology and Oncology Day Unit at Heartlands Hospital, creating a modern facility that brings haematology and oncology services together under one roof.
The project transformed the former ENT building into a purpose-designed treatment environment featuring additional procedure rooms, new treatment chairs, dedicated patient facilities and improved staff welfare, office and training spaces. Designed to enhance both patient experience and clinical efficiency, the new unit provides a welcoming environment while supporting multidisciplinary working.
The expanded facility will enable the hospital to significantly increase capacity, with weekly patient numbers expected to rise from around 200 to 400 through additional clinics and enhanced treatment facilities, including an extra isolation room for specialist procedures.
Delivered on time and within budget, the project demonstrates Speller Metcalfe’s expertise in delivering high-quality healthcare environments that improve patient care while supporting the evolving needs of NHS staff and services.
