Emergency Department and CT Suite Refurbishment, Warwick Hospital

Speller Metcalfe is delivering the phased refurbishment and expansion of the Emergency Department at South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust, creating improved outpatient facilities, a new CT scanner suite and a dedicated ‘Fit to Sit’ area to enhance patient flow and increase clinical capacity.

Delivered across two phases, the project involves the refurbishment of the existing outpatient department, followed by the construction of a new CT suite and associated clinical spaces. A key element of the scheme is the installation of a new air handling unit and plant deck, designed with additional capacity to support future developments across the wider hospital estate.

Working within one of the busiest areas of the hospital, adjacent to the live Emergency Department and ambulance triage facilities, the project requires extensive phasing, decanting of existing departments and careful management of complex hospital services as well as the general public. Construction activities are being undertaken around live corridors and occupied clinical areas, with out-of-hours working, robust infection prevention measures and meticulous logistics planning ensuring patient care continues safely throughout.

Designed to meet all relevant HTM and HBN standards, the project demonstrates Speller Metcalfe’s expertise in delivering technically complex healthcare refurbishments within live hospital environments. Phase One is due for completion at the end of 2026, with the overall project completing in 2027, further strengthening the company’s long-standing relationship with South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust.
