SPELLER METCALFE ANNOUNCED AS ASSOCIATE MEMBER OF THE CONSIDERATE CONSTRUCTORS SCHEME

Since 2000, Speller Metcalfe has registered 182 of its sites with the national initiative scheme to be monitored against a Code of Considerate Practice – designed to encourage best practice beyond statutory requirements.

Contractors are being marked on their approach to issues of high priority within the industry including site appearance, environment, workforce welfare and health and safety in order to encourage the revitalisation of best practice within the construction industry.

The West Midlands based contractor has previously met successes at the National Considerate Constructor Awards for Blackmarston Primary School in Hereford, receiving a Silver award for a high score of 44/50- placing the project in the top 5 per cent of sites nationally.

The project stood out for initiatives that supported the local community; sourcing 80% of all materials within a 30 mile radius of site and initiating fundraising schemes for local charities.

Awarded as part of the West Midlands Contractor Framework, Speller Metcalfe has been contracted to develop Habberley Learning Campus in Kidderminster. The site, which involves the refurbishment of Baxter College and St John’s Primary School as well as the construction of the new Wyre Forest Special School, has the potential to be the company’s highest score yet with a pre-completion Considerate Constructor score of 46/50.

Speller Metcalfe has proven their commitment to the scheme with a current average score that successfully exceeds the CCS national score- completing the criteria set to become an Associate Member.

Steve Speller, Joint Managing Director at Speller Metcalfe, discusses future plans for the company as an Associate Member: ‘We are so pleased that we have been invited to become an Associate Member of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, and we look forward to actively promoting the benefits of the initiative whilst bringing new ideas to the table.

‘The construction industry is becoming increasingly aware of the need to have a positive impact on the local community whether that is by creating long-term, sustainable buildings or stimulating the local economy through employment opportunities and apprenticeships.

‘We recognise the scheme as an integral part of our business strategy and we strive to continue raising standards across all our sites,’ said Steve Speller.

Considerate Constructors’ Associate Member, Speller Metcalfe has also been certified with a Silver Award by Investors in People for their high standards in management.
