Speller Metcalfe and Fortis complete new Worcester housing development

Worcestershire’s largest social housing landlord has finalised a new housing development scheme in Worcester.

Fortis Living has completed the homes at Chedworth Drive and Snowshill Close in the Warndon area of the city which have been built by local firm Speller Metcalfe.

The development comprises 11 new homes – 9 for affordable rent and 2 shared ownership.  Prior to the development, the area housed underused garages.

Marc Howard, Development Manager at Fortis Living explained: “As part of our approach to make the best use of space, we decided to utilise areas that were no longer benefitting our communities; we are delighted that the garages have now been transformed into quality, new and affordable homes for local people.”

The development was supported by a grant of £246,700 from Homes England; the total cost of the construction was £1.28million.

The project – which was designed by Worcester-based DJD Architects – began in November 2011 and was built by national construction company Speller Metcalfe, which has its headquarters in Malvern.

Steve Speller, Joint Owner of Speller Metcalfe said: “With such a demand for affordable housing across the country Speller Metcalfe is delighted to have worked with our long-term client Fortis Living to deliver these much needed, high quality homes.”

Marc concluded: “Building and acquiring high quality, affordable new homes for rent and shared ownership in the local area is at the heart of what we do and we are delighted to unveil this latest development.

“Our housing programme is one of the biggest in the West Midlands and is testimony to our ongoing desire and commitment to provide more affordable housing for local people.”
