Malvern Vale Primary School

The first new primary school for Malvern in over 25 years

Project

Malvern Vale Primary School

Speller Metcalfe was contracted by Worcestershire County Council to build a new school in Malvern to cater for the growing population of the area – the first school primary school to be built in the town in 25 years.

Malvern Vale Primary School will employ 25 members of staff and accomodate 210 pupils from Reception through to Year 6.

The project involved the construction of a single-storey, 1280m2, timber-framed, school building including standalone plant room, associated mechanical and eletrical installations in addition to external works, drainage and services. Where possible the school has been designed to reflect its natural surroundings including features such as a sedum (green) roof.

A new hard play area, netball courts and pathas and pavings had also been installed in addition to associated landscaping.

The school site is in the middle of a busy residential housing area so the site team had to pay particular attention to minimising disruption to local residents and during the construction works updated a blog detailing the progress of the project throughout.

The project completed in 2018, ready to welcome students in the autumn term.
