Emergency department redevelopment gets underway at Russells Hall Hospital.
The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust are thrilled to announce that works are underway at Russells Hall Hospital to transform resus facilities, following a successful redevelopment bid for the Trust’s emergency department.
Work has begun to provide a new state-of-the-art facility, which will include an enhanced resuscitation space, that will revolutionise the care given at the Trust’s emergency department.
The redevelopment will be managed by the Trust’s Private Finance Initiative partners Mitie and Summit Healthcare with construction work undertaken Speller Metcalfe, and includes additional resuscitation facilities with a dedicated paediatric area and isolation rooms to provide appropriate safe care in the event of future pandemics or outbreaks.
The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust chief executive Diane Wake said, “I’m thrilled that work is officially underway to transform our resus department. This is a defining moment for us here at Dudley and will have huge benefits not only for our patients and the Black Country community, but also for our staff by improving the facilities.
“We know that by having an environment fit for purpose we will deliver an improved patient experience.”
Further to this, the department will have state of the art technology and equipment, including a digital medicine system to improve the storing, usage and prescribing of drugs to patients.
Dr Ahmed Ismail, consultant and clinical director of urgent & acute services said, “I’m incredibly proud to be a part of this redevelopment opportunity. It’s going to have a huge impact, with advanced equipment optimised to enhance the way we treat our patients – our Trust truly needs and deserves this!
“We can also maximise support for our staff with opportunities to have training areas and most importantly give them a confidence and morale boost with a state-of-the-art environment.”
Rob Lashford, Director at Speller Metcalfe said: “We’re pleased to be making headway on the extension of the Resus department for Russells Hall Hospital. We know how important this new facility will be both to the hospital staff and to the local community and are proud to be delivering it.”
Chin Wan, Project Manager for Mitie added: “Mitie are proud to continue the working collaboration between Summit and the Trust to help extend the Resus department so that it provides the wider community an improved service offering, great opportunity for all parties to work closely together to deliver a new extended department.”
The build is a great opportunity for The Dudley Group to enhance the services provided. Any disruption to the Trust’s emergency department will be kept to a minimum throughout the process however, due to these works, it may mean that services are busier than usual. Patients are asked to choose services appropriately and take simple steps to help ensure care is available to those who need it most.
