SPELLER METCALFE COMPLETES SERIES OF CONTRACTS FOR WESTERN POWER DISTRIBUTION

Combining together individually tendered contracts to date, works include refurbishments, remodelling, new build and extension projects to existing depot offices alongside extensive external works – totalling £10.6m.

Speller Metcalfe has continued to be successful at tender stage, in part due to our previous success with Western Power Distribution, but ultimately because of our ability to deliver fast-track, sustainable projects within time and on budget. As many of these sites were live, the building contractor incorporated a shift timetable across out of office hours to minimise disruption.

Working alongside our Major Works team, which is headed up by Regional Construction Manager Steve Cruchley, our Ecobuild division has been advising on delivering existing sites to BREEAM Very Good and new build sites to BREEAM Excellent at design stage, with many of the contracts turned around in just six weeks on site.

“Speller Metcalfe’s ownership from the top down proved invaluable support to delivering these cost effective depots to our demanding quality standards and on time,” said David Withers, Estates Manager for WPD. “Their ability to construct depots utilising their own direct labour for many activities was a significant benefit to project delivery and the knowledgeable Ecobuild team’s support also added value to our ‘greenbuild’ objectives.”

Currently on site at Barnstable, Devon and Boston in Lincolnshire (both new build depots), other site locations have included Hinckley, Leicester, Northampton, Burton-on-Trent, Hereford, Kettering and Milton Keynes.
