58 new homes on Bristol Harbourside

Construction Company Speller Metcalfe is on site at Bristol harbourside, redeveloping the city’s iconic former Canon’s Marsh gasworks into 58 new luxury homes for client Acorn Property Group.

The Brandon Yard development, situated alongside Bristol’s historic Floating Harbour and opposite the SS Great Britain, is one of the last remaining areas of the city’s harbourside to be developed, having sat derelict for the past 40 years.

The 58 new homes will be set across three separate buildings and are a mixture of both new-build and restoration of existing buildings.

The new five-storey apartment block has been designed in a style in keeping with the area’s historic surroundings and will feature a range of one, two and three bedroom apartments plus an undercroft car park. The original historic façade of the Grade II listed Purifier House is being retained and the stone shell renovated into a further three-storey apartment block.  The existing grade 2 listed Engine House is also being converted into two townhouses.

Speller Metcalfe joint chairman Andy Metcalfe said, “Work is progressing very well on the Brandon Yard development with Acorn Property Group and the steel frames are now visible within the stone shells of the existing buildings.

“Speller Metcalfe has a wealth of experience in bringing new life into historic buildings and are very proud to be playing a part in the regeneration of this area of Bristol.”

Regional managing director, Robin Squire of Acorn Property Group said “Speller Metcalfe were invaluable at Pre-Construction stage on Brandon Yard and really understood Acorn’s requirements and ambitions for the development and aligned themselves with us.

“Works on site are progressing well, and the site – which is challenging not only because of the heritage, but also because it is a very small inner city site – is being managed very well with the over riding importance of health and safety of the workforce and the general public being at the centre of everything Speller Metcalfe do.”

Brandon Yard is being built by Speller Metcalfe’s South West office and is expected to complete in Spring 2019.
