Works complete at Ysgol y Wern Primary School
Ysgol y Wern Primary School has welcomed the completion of their building project, which has created new classrooms for Year 3-4 pupils.
The additional teaching space has enabled the school to reduce current class sizes and provide a purpose built environment for students.
Secured under the SEWSCAP Framework, Speller Metcalfe was appointed by Cardiff Council to carry out the scheme for the ‘Excellent’ rated school, located in the Llanishen district of Cardiff.
Following demolition works, the new two-classroom extension was built to match the appearance of the existing school, alongside a new Individual Teacher Training (ITT) suite which is connected to the school via a linked corridor.
“The project at Ysgol y Wern has been significant in that it will enable the School to welcome more pupils from the local area,” said Matthew Bailey, Small Works manager at Speller Metcalfe.
“We are delighted to have been part of a project that has had a positive impact on both the school and the Llanishen district, particularly as the construction works created additional jobs for many trades people who have predominantly hailed from Cardiff and the immediate area.”
Much of the work was undertaken with pupils on site, and Speller Metcalfe worked very closely with school staff to minimise disruption and work around key school periods.
