Thousands raised in Speller Metcalfe sponsored walk

WALKERS taking part in an annual fundraising event last weekend raised more than £22,000 for hospice care.

A total of 154 people took part in the 39th annual Malvern Hills Walk on Saturday, 13 May, organised by St Richard’s Hospice in Worcester.

Participants could choose either a circular two or five-mile route, or an 11-mile trek across the length of the hills.

Together they raised £22,554, after costs, to help fund St Richard’s care to patients, families and bereaved people across Worcestershire.

Alison Parkes, fundraiser at St Richard’s, said: “This event has been a fixture in our fundraising calendar since the hospice was founded in 1984.

“Each year, we are blown away by the support and dedication of those who take part and raise funds to help us continue our care. And this year is no exception!

“We are so grateful to every person who joined us and helped achieve something so incredible for our patients and families.”

The Malvern Hills Walk was sponsored by Malvern-based contractor, Speller Metcalfe, who have worked with the hospice over a number of years to develop facilities at St Richard’s.

James Speller, managing director at Speller Metcalfe, said: “St Richard’s campaign tirelessly in terms of their fundraising and support – not only for the patients who are provided with the highest level of care – but also their wider families who often lean on the support of the hospice and their staff.

“We are in awe of what they achieve year-on-year, and are delighted to do our part in helping them in raising awareness through the Malvern Hills Walk, with 2023 being our third year sponsoring the event.”

St Richard’s Hospice is an independent charity caring for adults with a serious progressive illness, improving their quality of life from diagnosis, during treatment to their last days and supporting those important to them.
