Speller Metcalfe announced as contractor for M&S expansion

Building contractor Speller Metcalfe has secured a £5.7m redevelopment contract to expand the current Marks & Spencer store at Sears Retail Park in Solihull, West Midlands.

Another 12,000 sq ft unit, originally a Homebase store, will be demolished before being combined with the existing M&S unit to form a single, 82,000 sq ft store.

This collective retail space will offer a much larger provision for customers and staff, including M&S clothing ranges, on-site café, food hall and additional car parking.

Speller Metcalfe will be responsible for building the new store to shell standard on behalf of client BMO Real Estate Partners, before M&S undertake a full fit out.

“We are delighted to be able to provide the residents of Solihull with a newly expanded store, which follows other successful projects for Speller Metcalfe at Sears Retail Park,” said Rob Lashford, regional director at Speller Metcalfe.

“As a regional contractor we are pleased that this scheme will provide a variety of local employment opportunities, which will benefit the community both during construction and as an enhanced retail provision once the project completes.”

The new retail unit is due to open in summer 2021.
