RURAL HOUSING WEEK HIGHLIGHTED IN BERKELEY AS NEW AFFORDABLE RENT SCHEME UNVEILED

The event, organised by housing provider Fortis Living, marked the beginning of the development of 10 new homes in Lynch Road which will be a mix of flats and houses for affordable rent.

The scheme has attracted funding of nearly £300,000 from the Homes and Communities Agency and also just over £65,000 from Stroud District Council who also approved the scheme. It has also received the support of Liz Ashton, Chair of Berkeley Town Council.

Fortis Living’s Development Director, Richard Grounds commented, “Rural Housing week highlights the challenge of providing affordable housing in affluent, rural communities. We hope this development will offer local people an opportunity to rent in an affordable way.”

Steve Speller from the main building contractor for the scheme, Speller Metcalfe commented, “It is great to see Lynch Road get off the ground and provide much needed affordable housing for the area. We are working closely with Fortis Living and BM3 to create highly efficient and well insulated homes to keep energy bills down for residents.”

The development will be completed in Spring 2017.
