NEW LOOK CHIPPING NORTON STORE OPENS DOORS TO LOCAL COMMUNITY

This is the fourth project that Speller Metcalfe has completed for the Midcounties Co-operative, following new build and refurbishment stores in Lechlade and Coleford (both Gloucestershire) and Rosehill in Oxfordshire.

Built over two phases, the first phase reinforced the concrete car park followed by provision of an access route to adjoining properties after initial demolition and enabling works to the brownfield site.

The second phase incorporated the new extension that has increased the store floor area by a third to provide additional sale goods for customers.

The Your Local Co-op Store, Chipping Norton, located on the High Street, has also created 26 new jobs in the town, and was relaunched to customers in July.

Children from local Holy Trinity School, along with head teacher, Lorna Buchanan, were on hand to officially cut the ribbon, and local suppliers Mudwalls shared samples for customers to enjoy.

The new 15,300 sq ft site features an additional 2,700 lines, will sell around 800 local products a year and includes specialist fish, meat and delicatessen counters, all manned by specially trained colleagues.

Brand new Post Office facilities with extended hours have also been introduced to the store, following its relocation from its previous site on the high street earlier in the month. An increase to 120 car parking spaces makes the facilities more accessible for the town’s residents.

Adam Quinton, store manager at Your Local Co-op in Chipping Norton, said: “This is an extremely exciting time for us, as we welcome our customers and members into the new look store. The changes we’ve made have come from their feedback, and it’s great that local people are seeing the changes that have been made to not only improve the food store and its products, but the Healthcare, Travel and Post Office branches too.

Andy Metcalfe, Joint Group Managing Director at Speller Metcalfe said: “The quality of the extension and building works for the Chipping Norton project are fantastic, and will provide a long-lasting facility to the town’s residents.

“We are delighted to once again be working with the Midcounties Co-operative and are already on site for our fifth Co-operative project in Upper Rissington for client Bovis Homes.”
