LOCAL CONTRACTORS TAKE HOME THREE AWARDS IN ONE NIGHT

The original theatre had been on site for over 50 years, providing workshops and creative theatre programmes to the local community.  Speller Metcalfe were tasked with redeveloping the existing building to make it more suitable and up-to-date for its current occupants.

The first award, ‘Recognising the Contribution to Oxford’, was made by the Oxford Preservation Trust, who recognised Speller Metcalfe’s commitment to preserving and enhancing the City’s historic character, while meeting the facility needs of the local community.

Debbie Dance, Director of the Trust said: “This stunning new place interests, intrigues and inspires. It makes a tangible contribution to the public domain, and has acted as a catalyst for improvement in the area – a fantastic achievement by all involved.”

Following the Oxford Preservation Trust Awards, Speller Metcalfe has also been acknowledged by the Biffaward Awards 2011.

The Pegasus Theatre project was the big talking point of the evening, taking home not only the ‘Cultural Facilities’ award, but also the ‘Overall Winner for 2011’ as the best project in all categories. The Chairman of the judging panel enthusiastically urged all attendees to visit the project, particularly emphasising the attention to detail and creativity that had gone into the Theatre.

Steve Speller, Joint Managing Director for Speller Metcalfe, said: “We are absolutely delighted to win not one but three awards for our efforts as contractors to the Pegasus Theatre.

“This not only recognises all our hard work and team effort that went into the project, but also that Speller Metcalfe continue to produce best quality builds for our clients, taking time to ensure we meet the highest standards in all areas of our work.”
