EVESHAM NURSERY WINS BUILDING DESIGN AWARD

The project, which was built on behalf of Worcestershire County Council and completed in 2011, was designed as a single-storey new build nursery by partners HOWL associates.

The project incorporates a range of sustainable features including sedum roof technology and SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage System) which is used to avoid the build-up of surface water from rain and store excess water run-off.

Naomi Christelow, Headteacher for the Nursery, said: “I am not sure what I expected of the whole process of building and moving into a new school building but I certainly didn’t anticipate the level of care and commitment that was displayed by Speller Metcalfe, which made the whole thing very enjoyable and enabled the inevitable challenges to be dealt with in the spirit of partnership.

“The quality of workmanship goes without saying and we are delighted with the building and its environs.”

The project was also nominated for the South Worcestershire Building Control Award and shortlisted for the prestigious RIBA awards for its design element.
