EVERYMAN THEATRE WINS AT CHELTENHAM CIVIC AWARDS 2012
This year, the prestigious Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham, won the award for 'Restoration of a Building or Structure.'
Recognising the need to maintain its previous high standards, Speller Metcalfe were contracted by the Theatre and appointed via Foster Wilson Architects to refurbish the historic auditorium and front of house areas, which included:
- Replacement of stalls flooring.
- Reinstatement of structural columns to support existing stage boxes that had begun to drop and were out of use.
- Specialist restoration of historic decorative fibrous plasterwork, decoration and artwork.
- Installation of high-specification production lighting, sound and communications equipment.
- Modernisation of existing box office, foyer, bar and restaurant areas.
The entire project was undertaken in a very tight 17 week closure period during Summer 2011, and was completed in time for the celebration go of the Theatre’s 120th anniversary in October 2011.
As well as winning an award for the Everyman Theatre, our Benhall PVI Nursery project also received a commendation in the category of 'New Build'.
