CREATING FUTURE LEADERS IN CONSTRUCTION

Speller Metcalfe, which is based in the West Midlands, has grown by over 30 per cent in the last year alone to become the largest private contractor in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Steve Speller, Joint MD at Speller Metcalfe explains why the Directors took the decision to create the new team: “Speller Metcalfe is often describe as a market leader, which is something we take great pride in, but in order to maintain this position we created the Innovation & Excellence Board to help drive new ideas and practise forward.

“Our six ambitious members of staff now have the opportunity to communicate their ideas with the Main Board as well as act as a spokesperson for other employees, which will help to bridge communication gaps – something we are continually trying to improve upon at Speller Metcalfe.”

Taken from the Company strapline ‘Innovation and Excellence in Construction’, the Innovation & Excellence Board members have been drawn from all facets of the company to work alongside the Directors, helping to consider and review all aspects of the existing business philosophy.

As well as creating fresh ideas, the Innovation & Excellence Board allows for the next generation of leaders to develop their skills within the company.

Sara Barnes, BID Writer at Speller Metcalfe and one of the six team members said: “Being a member of the board has given me an opportunity to work closely with the main board of Directors to develop my own leadership skills, but also break new ground by offering original ideas.

“As a recent graduate and new member of the Company, I was surprised at the opportunities available to me so early on. It is extremely satisfying to work for a company whose senior members want to implement your ideas.”
