Construction is moving at pace on the new Hereford Fire Station
Works are well underway to deliver a brand-new fire station in Hereford as part of a programme to improve services and better support local residents in Hereford and the surrounding areas.
Construction began on the station in summer 2025, delivered by main contractor Speller Metcalfe and designed by Bond Bryan Architects on behalf of client, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.
Following demolition of the existing station, the new building with a contract value of £13.6 million, will be a modern, four-storey facility. The station will feature four appliance bays with a total footprint of approximately 600m².
The building will be fully fitted with modern facilities, as well as sustainable features such as solar panels. Works will also include external landscaping and dedicated car parking spaces.
Given the historic nature of the surrounding area along St Owens Street, the project team is taking careful measures to ensure the construction works respect and preserve local heritage.
The scheme is also registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme, which supports and guides positive change in the construction industry.
The project represents a significant investment in the local community, providing an upgraded, efficient station to support the Hereford Fire and Rescue Service in delivering its critical services.
“We are proud to be working on this important project for Hereford,” said Mark Hudgeon, divisional director at Speller Metcalfe. “The new station will not only provide firefighters with modern, efficient facilities but also ensure that the local community continues to receive the highest standard of emergency services.”
Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Ade Elliott, of Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue service added, “We are delighted that this project has now commenced on-site, and will provide a new four bay fire station, improved site access, and office space for Herefordshire based Protection and Prevention teams.”
Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service reassure the community that the construction is progressing on schedule. In the meantime, fire operations continue as usual from a temporary fire station, ensuring uninterrupted emergency services to our communities.
The project is being delivered under the PAGABO framework and is planned to be completed in early 2027.
