Speller Metcalfe awarded new £4 million Hereford School scheme

More than £4million is to be spent on a new sports hall, teaching block and internal alterations at a Hereford School, as confirmed by Herefordshire Council.

Located on Grandstand Road in Hereford, Brookfield School will use the money to improve teaching facilities.

Speller Metcalfe has been appointed as the contractor for the work, having successfully completed a number of projects in Herefordshire previously.

The Brookfield improvement project seeks to achieve better school buildings compliant with DfE building bulletin 104 for special educational needs settings and the capacity to deliver the full statutory curriculum.

This will ensure that there is high quality sustainable education accommodation for young people in Herefordshire with SEMH special needs.

Mark Eaton, divisional director at Speller Metcalfe, said: “We’re delighted to have been selected as the approved contractor on this scheme. We have a history of delivering outstanding education facilities are and confident in our ability to improve the quality of learning provision at Brookfield School.”

The project has been joint funded by the Department for Education and Herefordshire Council.

Councillor Harry Bramer, Herefordshire Council Cabinet Member for Community Services and Assets, said: “We’re pleased to be working in partnership with Brookfield School and Speller Metcalfe to provide buildings that meet modern standards and will enhance the education experience of its pupils for generations to come.”

Michelle Parkes, Headteacher of The Brookfield School, added: “I want to thank the whole team who have worked tirelessly to bring this to fruition; this extension and upgrade to our school will significantly improve our educational provision and create an enhanced learning environment for our pupils. It reflects our ongoing commitment to providing high-quality education and ensuring that our facilities meet the needs of our growing school community.”

Works are expected to commence mid-August 2024.
