SOD CUTTING CEREMONY MARKS THE START OF NEW PERCY THROWER GARDEN CENTRE

The £7.4 million pound project will see the existing centre in Shrewsbury demolished and the site made ready to house a new and impressive 6300 sq metre retail unit, which will offer customers more modern and better quality facilities.

Building contractor Speller Metcalfe has been chosen to oversee the works, which include the new garden centre, three additional retail units and demolition of the existing centre to make way for a new Waitrose supermarket.

Steve Speller, Joint MD at Speller Metcalfe explained the significance of the project: “Percy Thrower is a household name in the West Midlands and we hope that this development will become a fitting legacy for someone who was so passionate about gardening.

“As a local contractor who know the area well, we will be doing everything we can to minimise any disruption to customers, which will include keeping the existing centre fully operational and open to the public throughout the building works.”

Alongside the new retail units, upgrades to the Centre – which is part of The Garden Centre Group – will include a new café for visitors, display area for plants and merchandise, a new office, storage and kitchen facilities.
