£4.5M leisure centre extension reaches completion in Bristol

The extension of Filton Leisure Centre in Bristol has now completed, creating a vibrant new look for the facility.

Regional contractor Speller Metcalfe were appointed to deliver the project and demolished the existing reception area and changing rooms to make room for the new extension and create a new single point of entry.

Stuart Martin, Managing Director of Active Nation said: “Completing the Filton Leisure Centre extension marks a pivotal achievement for Active Nation, especially considering the current health landscape in the UK, where nearly 63% of adults are above a healthy weight. This project is more than an expansion; it’s about revolutionising community engagement with fitness and wellness, striving to make a healthy lifestyle more attainable and appealing.”

In order to ensure the new leisure centre meets the needs of the community, Active Nation worked alongside Filton Town Council throughout the duration of the project.

Stuart Martin, Managing Director of Active Nation continued: “In partnership with Filton Town Council and close collaboration with Watson Batty Architects and Speller Metcalfe, we’ve carefully crafted Active Nation Filton to meet the unique health and well-being needs of our communities. We’re eager to reveal a venue that not only meets expectations but surpasses them, embodying our mission to inspiring the nation to improve their health and well-being.”

Designed by Watson Batty Architects, the extension includes a new reception area, café and soft play facility. In addition, the construction focused on expanding the amenities surrounding the swimming pool, including both wet and dry side changing, alongside improvements to the look and feel of the building.

Mark Hudegon, Divisional Director at Speller Metcalfe: “We’re delighted to have delivered this fantastic new extension to Filton Leisure Centre which has created a new, modern space for the local community. Speller Metcalfe have delivered a number of leisure facilities over the past few years and we’re pleased to see another one reach completion.”
