Regional contractor celebrates 30 years of business

Midlands-based construction company, Speller Metcalfe, is celebrating a milestone 30 years in business.

The family-owned company was initially established in 1995 in Cradley, Worcestershire, by Steve Speller and Andy Metcalfe, before moving their HQ to Malvern in 2002. Twelve years later they launched a Wolverhampton office, and between the two bases they now predominantly support projects across the Midlands and South-West regions.

Co-founder Steve retired from the business in 2022, with son James named as Managing Director. This was followed by Andy’s retirement in October last year, with James’ brother, Adrian Speller, named Joint Managing Director in 2025.

Since its inception, the contractor has grown to employ over 250 staff with a £150m turnover. They have twice been named UK’s ‘Contractor of the Year’ and established themselves as leaders in collaboration and sustainability at numerous awards ceremonies.
