The Harvey Shopping Centre is a 69,000 sq ft mall in the centre of Harlow, Essex, originally built in 1982. Due to the success of an initial mall refurbishment and enhancement project across three phases, Speller Metcalfe was contracted to undertake a further three phases of the development programme with a seventh negotiated phase completing in 2016.
Construction works included the refurbishment, repair and enhancement of the central and upper mall area, the reconfiguration of an existing large retail unit and five separate shop units across two floors, the incorporation of a new modern 1,000 sq ft café, refurbishment of an empty Marks & Spencers store into new shops and a gym and the completion of the 6 auditorium cinema works and restaurant units to shell standards.
An extraordinary level of detail and attention has been paid to minimising disruption, enhancing public engagement and working within the Considerate Constructors Scheme.
