Speller Metcalfe has been contracted to deliver a complete refurbishment of an existing BHS store on the high profile location of New Street in Birmingham to shell standard, producing opportunities for three new tenants within the space.

Internally this incorporates a complete strip out of the existing space back to the concrete shell and internal reconfiguration followed by new lifts, stair core, flooring and M&E across the vast space. An atrium with mezzanine level is also being constructed at the ground floor entrance to the building.

Alongside the refurbishment of the main building, an existing BHS satellite store running alongside Union Street is being stripped back to shell standard, with new blockwork walls, new cladding and the floor completely levelled out to ground floor access. This will form a separate retail unit for a new tenant.

Pedestrian access to all units is being maintained throughout the project and demolition period, with much of the work taking place out of peak times.
