Woodcote Grove

10,000 m2 state-of-the-art commercial development

Project

Woodcote Grove

Speller Metcalfe has been contracted by Henry Boot Developments to redevelop the historic Atkins offices in Epsom to give staff working at Woodcote Grove more modern, efficient and flexible working spaces. Working from design stage, the team has advised on buildability issues, design features and value engineering.

The first phase was to complete the initial £3.2m enabling works package in 2016 to provide 395 parking spaces on site. As part of the contract, Speller Metcalfe reduced the existing car park to a new, lower level, increased the number of parking bays through a new layout and improved drainage to the area.

The next phase of works was the three-storey office, 10,000 sq/m state-of-the-art development to Cat A standard that incorporates a trapezoidal atrium that reaches the full height of the building. A feature glass and steelwork staircase runs two sides of the atrium, with raised access floors meeting the exposed services.

Schuco curtain walling covers around 85% of the envelope with a mix of Corian®, zinc and reconstituted stone making up the balance of the elevations.

The design has been developed to meet the highest sustainability targets, including BREEAM Excellent and an A-rated Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) and was designed to BIM Level 2.

Atkins launched the STEMLab on site, an interactive space next to Woodcote Grove where children aged eight to 14 can learn about design, engineering and construction and have welcomed hundreds of children from local schools to visit during the period of construction.
