Warwick Independent School Foundation (WISF) contracted Speller Metcalfe to deliver Project One Campus as part of their vision to create a cohesive educational campus where students get the benefits of same-sex education whilst still having opportunities to collaborate outside of the classroom.
Delivered over two distinct phases, the ambitious scheme has brought together all of the foundation’s schools – Warwick School, Warwick Prep and King’s High for Girls – onto one unique, coeducational campus in order for them to best share resources and activities, whilst enjoying the benefits of single-sex education.
Project One was delivered over multiple phases in a live school environment and included:
- The complete relocation of King’s High School for Girls from a listed-building in the city centre to join the other schools at the Myton Road campus;
- A three-storey Sixth Form Centre for both King’s High and Warwick School students, encompassing catering and social space, formal study areas, careers hub, a library and quiet study areas;
- Construction of a ‘wrap-around’ extension to King’s High forming a new Sports and Technology centre which is linked to the existing Bridge Sports Centre;
- A state-of-the-art music school with practice rooms and performance spaces.
All the buildings are of an extremely high specification finish and involved a wide range of specialist works and materials.
The project won the RIBA West Midlands Award 2021.
