Redevelopment of five former garage sites

Speller Metcalfe was appointed by repeat client Fortis Living to redevelop five former garage sites at Chedworth Drive and Snowshill Close in Worcester into 11 new affordable homes.

The garages were identified for demolition and redevelopment by Fortis Living due to their poor structural condition and the associated ongoing maintenance costs. We demolished 34 garages across three of the five sites; the garages on the other two sites were demolished in 2015 after storm damage rendered them unsafe.

In their place 11 new homes were built – 5 two-bed houses, 4 three-bed houses and 2 two-bed bungalows, all with private gardens.

The scheme also provides existing residents with 61 unallocated parking spaces, as well as 2 spaces for each new home, exceeding the current peak parking requirements across the five sites.

The development is 100% affordable and offers a mix of shared ownership and affordable rent in a sustainable, well serviced residential area with good access to local shops, schools, playing fields and community facilities.
