Speller Metcalfe was appointed through the UK Leisure framework to deliver a scheme as part of the Chard Regeneration project for South Somerset District Council.
The project is part of a wider scheme to bring the historic Grade II-listed Boden Mill site bought back into use, with a central focus as the new leisure centre and swimming pool.
The £14m scheme included:
- Demolition of existing industrial buildings at the Boden Mill Site (carried out by Speller Metcalfe as a separate enabling works package);
- Site diversions including partial diversion of a historic brick culvert;
- Construction of the new build, one and two-storey leisure centre, including a state-of-the-art 50-60 station gym, a 25-metre swimming pool and learner pool, various exercise and fitness studios, an adventure play facility and a café;
- Associated drainage and hard and soft landscaping, including public realm areas;
- Extension of existing car park.
