Project

Russells Hall Hospital extension

Speller Metcalfe delivered a £12m redevelopment of the resuscitation facilities at Russells Hall Hospital emergency department for Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust. Designed by AFL Architects, the single-storey scheme comprises a combination of partial new build and refurbishment works, following a successful redevelopment bid by the Trust in 2020 to increase resuscitation capacity and support future demand.

To maintain continuity of emergency services, Speller Metcalfe initially completed enabling works, refurbishing existing internal areas to create temporary resus, entrance and assessment spaces. The main works then transformed the department to include dedicated paediatric resuscitation areas, new isolation rooms to support infection control, an improved bereavement suite, and the introduction of modern digital technology and equipment to support contemporary healthcare delivery.

Alongside the main construction works, Speller Metcalfe completed the internal fit out of the department ready for clinical use, as well as associated external car parking works.

The scheme has been designed to achieve BREEAM Excellent standards, supporting the Trust’s sustainability ambitions.
