Speller Metcalfe was contracted to deliver the redevelopment of Stroud’s Five Valleys shopping centre as part of an investment by Dransfield Properties Ltd and GFirst LEP to transform the town centre retail hub into an attraction for visitors, and investment into the area.
A key feature of the scheme has been the removal of existing stores and reorganisation of walkways to introduce a large, central space that has enabled Five Valleys to create a Borough Market-inspired indoor marketplace, with a variety of street food stalls on offer including a butchers, chocolatier, greengrocers, bakery and various cuisines including Japanese, Thai, Italian and British.
Internally, a series of goods and passenger lifts have also been installed to improve access, including a new customer lift on the top level car parking area that has also been extended to house an additional 94 car parking spaces, alongside a further 26 spaces throughout each floor.
The 1960s car park has also undergone a face life with improvements made to its exterior, alongside the addition of a new glazed elevation that has modernised the frontage on Merrywalks Road into a welcome, light entrance for shoppers.
