Cinderford Medical Centre

New £4m super surgery

Project

Cinderford Medical Centre

Speller Metcalfe worked in partnership with developers, Assura, to construct the new £4m Cinderford Medical Centre, which replaces an existing health centre building and houses both Dockham Road and Forest Health Care surgeries.

The 1,477 sq metre ‘super surgery’ can accommodate up to 14,000 new patients, and has transformed GP services in the area.

The modern, environmentally-friendly, state-of-the-art centre, now includes 20 multi-purpose consulting rooms, nurse treatment areas and first-rate facilities for reception and administration staff.

Considerable planning went into ensuring that the building is accessible and welcoming to all its patients. Developers and GP surgery staff worked alongside dementia experts to ensure the new building is one of the UK’s first dementia-friendly surgeries, incorporating a layout that takes into account specialist needs using colours and imagery to help patients find their way around.

The new medical centre will also champion the power of growing and the outdoors to support health and wellbeing with its own community allotment where local people can grow fruit and vegetables, linking into local social prescribing initiatives.
