Chellaram Sports Complex

Project

Chellaram Sports Complex

Clifton College is replacing their existing indoor sports dome with a new sports hall located on the same footprint, alongside a small single storey extension. Whilst the existing ‘bubble’ received permanent planning permission in 2002, the structure itself does not have a very long lifespan, is in need of regular maintenance and is looking tired.

The new Chellaram Sports Complex will incorporate a multi-purpose floor that encompasses:

  • 3 netball courts
  • 3 tennis courts
  • 12 badminton courts
  • 3 basketball courts
  • 10 cricket net lanes
  • A bouldering wall
  • Indoor hockey pitch
  • Space for touch rugby
  • Numerous tennis tables

Unlike the existing sports hall, the new development will include bleacher seating for 208 people to enjoy viewing sporting events, as well as associated facilities such as toilets, changing rooms, equipment storage and a plant area.

With the existing dome required to be in a constant pressurised state, being powered by mains electricity it has a significant energy load and running cost for the college. The replacement sports hall has been designed to have a much-reduced energy consumption in comparison, and will meet current energy efficiency and sustainability standards including BREEAM Excellent.
