Breast Unit, Royal Worcester Hospital

Based at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Speller Metcalfe has been appointed to carry out the £1.84m breast screening construction programme, which will expand the site by more than two thirds.
The project will see single-storey extensions built onto the existing unit to improve services; the larger extension will contain treatment rooms, consultants offices and general healthcare facilities and the smaller extension will contain administrative offices.
This will enable Worcestershire to deliver state-of-the-art breast imaging facilities, using the latest breast imaging technology. It will also enable the service to relocate its base from Princess of Wales Hospital, Bromsgrove to the Worcester site.
Alongside the additional screening and ultrasound facilities, the extension will enable weekend screenings to ease NHS service pressures and reduce waiting times, as well as provide nationally accredited training to develop and recruit the future Herefordshire & Worcestershire Breast Radiology workforce.
