At Speller Metcalfe, we recognise the significant impact our activities have on the environment at a local, regional, and global level.

We strive to manage our environmental impact by taking a responsible and proactive approach that focuses on innovation, responsibility, and continuous improvement – and where possible exceeds industry regulations – to help us shape a more sustainable future for the places where we work.

Environmental commitments

Speller Metcalfe continually seeks to improve our environmental performance through a circular economy approach, including:

  • Protecting and enhancing biodiversity
  • Reusing and recycling materials, wherever feasible
  • Water and energy conservation
  • Pollution prevention and control

We also produce and manage:

  • Specialist land remediation strategies to develop brownfield sites and create new infrastructure
  • Construction environmental management plans
  • Local Authority environmental planning requirements
  • Building to sustainable codes, with a focus on airtightness and energy efficiency
  • Harnessing the expertise of our in-house SHEQ team (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality)

Social value

Education and collaboration is key to creating a sustainable legacy for the next generation. Our project teams work hand-in-glove with schools, colleges and universities that provide hands-on opportunities to learn about the built environment, and how we are working towards creating a sustainable future – at all stages of the build process.

This may be constructing bee hives and bug hotels with primary school children through to supporting modules in sustainability and design at degree level, alongside the implementation of our own internal training and development programmes.
