Environmental commitments
Speller Metcalfe continually seeks to improve our environmental performance through a circular economy approach, including:

- Reusing and recycling materials, wherever feasible
- Water conservation
- Pollution prevention and control
We also produce and manage:
- Specialist land remediation strategies to develop brownfield sites and create new infrastructure
- Project-specific environmental management plans
- Local authority environmental planning requirements
- Building to sustainable codes, with a focus on airtightness and energy efficiency
- Harnessing the expertise of our in-house SHEQ team (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality)
Social value
Education and collaboration is key to creating a sustainable legacy for the next generation. Our project teams work hand-in-glove with schools, colleges and universities that provide hands-on opportunities to learn about the built environment, and how we are working towards creating a sustainable future – at all stages of the build process.
This may be constructing bee hives and bug hotels with primary school children through to supporting modules in sustainability and design at degree level, alongside the implementation of our own internal training and development programmes.

Adrian Speller
Technical Director
Adrian has overseen the development and delivery of some of the UK’s most sustainable buildings, both new build and retrofit. He is Passive House Tradesperson certified, which is globally recognised, ensuring he is expertly qualified in the design and construction of high-performance buildings that use a fabric-first approach.
Norman Davies
Senior Health & Safety Manager
Norman oversees the health and safety team at Speller Metcalfe, and is a consistent ambassador of best practice in our drive for health and safety excellence.
Sam Minett-Smith
EHS Risk & Opportunity Manager
Sam manages our carbon footprint analysis, streamlining energy reports and supporting the wider business in our net zero targets. He also champions recycled product and material re-use and uses his experience of retrofit construction to support energy efficiency and decarbonisation. He has close to 20 years’ experience, a BSC & PDip in Environmental Management and is also a qualified Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv).
