As well as working to our own Social Value Charter, Speller Metcalfe is committed to supporting our clients and partners in achieving their own social value aspirations.
We work from tender stage to identify legacy projects that will positively impact on a scheme and its local community, whether it be employment opportunities, upskilling, fundraising, family fun days, mental health support or just donating materials to a local school, we want to make our lasting impression is a positive one.

Considerate Constructors Scheme
The Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) is an independently managed, not-for-profit organisation that works side-by-side with the construction industry and the public to raise standards and build trust.
The scheme’s code of practice mirrors how we like to do things, focussing on collaborative working, strong communication, giving back to our local communities, working to the highest health and safety standards and minimising the environmental impact of our construction activities.
Our Partnership with the CCS supports us in making a positive, lasting difference to our clients and surrounding communities and we advocate others in the industry, including our own supply chain partners and suppliers to become members. Worcestershire Construction Apprentice Academy
The Worcestershire Construction Apprentice Academy (WCAA) was launched in 2014 by Speller Metcalfe as a not-for-profit charity to support apprentices and employers in Worcestershire.
Speller Metcalfe provides financial grants and trade vouchers (partnering with Travis Perkins) in recognition of the difficult financial challenges employing an apprentice can have for small businesses. We work alongside the Heart of Worcestershire College to identify apprentices who will qualify for support, which is currently offered to students across bricklaying and carpentry trades.
With the current industry skills gap, Speller Metcalfe aims to help more apprentices into construction, and by working together with the College we want to increase the number of apprenticeship opportunities available locally, develop a highly skilled workforce, improve employer / apprenticeship links and boost job opportunities in Worcestershire.

Education
Speller Metcalfe partners with a number of schools and colleges to promote the construction industry and provide opportunities for learning. This includes:
- Site visits
- Supporting modules through on-site learning
- Workshops (building bug hotels, learning trades)
- Internal training programme for apprentices and early careers professionals
Buzz Sitegear
Part of our education programme, Buzz Sitegear is one of the most important members of Speller Metcalfe – our mascot who represents the very best of the construction industry.
Buzz regularly visits schools to teach pupils about the importance of safety and construction, and has lots of great tools and resources to make learning fun.

Our teams are audited and supported by a specialist environmental team, that recognise best practice through quarterly environmental awards.
