Birmingham Airport

Project

Birmingham Airport

Speller Metcalfe delivered a new bussing lounge, fire escape and travel corridor at Birmingham Airport as part of the airport’s Master Plan which will enable them to develop their estate to allow a 40% increase in passengers to 18 million per year by 2033.

The project also involved the removal of an existing smoking bridge, diesel tanks and a seven-storey staircase with all works carried out airside.

The live airport environment posed a number of unique logistical challenges and restrictions which required careful communication and consideration from the site team to ensure works were carried out safely and securely without disruption to airport services, including 24-hour working to meet programme deadlines.
