The job

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Trainee / Apprentice Construction Estimator. This entry-level position offers a unique opportunity to learn the fundamentals of construction estimating from experienced professionals, along with attaining a construction related degree. The trainee will assist in analysing project requirements, gathering data, and preparing accurate cost estimates for a variety of construction projects up to the value of £5 million. Schemes include projects within sectors such as healthcare, education, leisure, automotive and commercial so your role will always be interesting!

How you’ll contribute

In this varied role, you will:

  • Learn to interpret architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and other project documents to understand project scope and requirements.
  • Assist in conducting material take-offs and quantifying materials required for construction projects.
  • Shadow experienced estimators to understand the process of preparing detailed cost estimates, including labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather necessary information for estimating.
  • Develop proficiency in using estimating software and tools to prepare accurate and competitive bids.
  • Assist in analysing historical data and industry trends to inform cost estimates.
  • Support the preparation and submission of bid proposals, including organising and formatting documentation.
  • Maintain organized records of project estimates, bids, and related documentation.
  • Attend site visits to help understand schemes.
  • Four days will be spent in the business and one day at University.


Who are we looking for?

To be successful in this role you will bring your enthusiasm and determination as well as:

  • A levels or T Levels or equivalent.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft suite of applications.
  • Eagerness to learn and develop skills in construction estimating.
  • Prior internship or work experience in construction, estimating, or related field is a plus.
  • General knowledge and awareness of construction materials, methods, and terminology is beneficial.
  • Hold a valid driving licence and have access to a car.
